Appenzeller spitzhauben society of great britain
Welcome to the website of the Appenzeller Spitzhauben Society of Great Britain.
Over the coming weeks we will be adding to the site more information and images of this lovely old Swiss Breed. Unfortunately not a very common breed in the UK we desparately need more dedicated breeders to take on the challenge of breeding the Appenzeller Spitzhauben. Currently standardised in both large Fowl and bantams the breed is recognised in five colour varieties, namely; Silver Spangled, Gold Spangled, Chamois Spangled, Black & Blue. The breed is often referred to as a 'flighty' breed, but we like to refer to as 'spirited'. True it is not a breed which is naturally tame, but with good husbandry the breed is no more difficult than any other breed. They are excellent layers of large white eggs, which do well on free range and are not prone to becoming broody. |
